Left wing Extremism: 4 PKK terrorists 'neutralized' in eastern Turkey

ANKARA At least four PKK terrorists were neutralized on Friday in eastern Turkey, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry. The terrorists were “neutralized” in a joint operation, carried out by provincial gendarmerie and police forces in the Tutak district of Agri province, the ministry said in a statement. Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in statements to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured. The ministry added that the operation is still underway. Earlier, three other PKK terrorists surrendered to Turkish security forces, the National Defense Ministry said on Friday. “Three PKK terrorists who escaped from the shelter areas in northern Iraq surrendered to our security forces in Silopi,” a district in Turkey’s southeastern Sirnak province, the ministry said on Twitter.  PKK terrorists continue to surrender as a result of decisive operations of the Turkish Armed Forces, it added. Left wing Extremism: Gadchiroli cops leave Maoists red-faced calling their minor victim ‘Shantidoot’

NAGPUR: Manoj Hidko, 17, may not have been a police informer, for which Maoists shot him dead last week, but he is certainly the cops’ ‘ Shantidoot ’ or peace ambassador now. The murder of the minor by Maoists at his native village of Bimankhoji in north Gadchiroli has become a means for the police to embarass the killers. The Maoists have so far murdered 17 civilians this year. Hidko was the first minor to be eliminated by the Maoists in last several years. They labelled him a police informer. In fact, Hidko had been rounded up by the cops in the past as they suspected he was a Maoist operative, but was let off as nothing was found. He had then shifted to Rajnandgaon to find some job, but returned to his native village to resume studies. Gadchiroli police have declared Hidko, who was trying to resume his education, a mascot of peace or ‘Shantidoot’ at the ‘Hoonkar rally’ against Maoist violence earlier this week. The rally by around 5,000 students culminated at the di

Posters urge women to join Maoist fold

On the fifth day of the Maoists’ PLGA Week on Friday, posters and banners urging women to join their organisation surfaced at several places in the Kalimela region of Malkangiri district. In the posters, the Red rebels have threatened people to punish them in Kangaroo courts if they pass on any information or act as police informers. As a precautionary measure for the PLGA, Week, the operation of Government bus services in the Leftwing extremist-infested districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal have been suspended. The district police, Special Operations Group, BSF and CRPF are on high alert and intensified patrolling and combing operations to prevent any violence by the ultras. Frisking of vehicles is also being carried out in the sensitive areas. The Maoists observe PLGA Week every year to commemorate their comrades killed in the police encounters over the years. Usually, they take out rallies and address public gatherings during the week-lon

Saudi suspect in U.S. Navy base attack linked to anti-U.S. Twitter screed

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Reuters) - The Saudi airman accused of killing three people at a U.S. Navy base in Florida appeared to have posted criticism of U.S. wars and quoted slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden on social media hours before the shooting spree, according to a group that monitors online extremism. Federal investigators have not disclosed any motive behind the attack, which unfolded at dawn on Friday when the Saudi national is said to have began firing a handgun inside a classroom at the Naval Air Station Pensacola. A sheriff's deputy fatally shot the gunman, authorities said, ending the second deadly attack at a U.S. military base within a week. Hours later, Saudi Arabia's King Salman called U.S. President Donald Trump to extend his condolences and pledge his kingdom's support in the investigation. Authorities confirmed the suspect was a member of the Royal Saudi Air Force who was on the base as part of a U.S. Navy training program designed to f

Left wing Extremism: Duterte wants CPP-NPA peace talks in PH – Esperon

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte is serious about starting yet another round of peace talks with communist rebels, but he wants it done in the Philippines, and accompanied by a ceasefire that’s serious, too, said National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr on Friday, December 6. This comes a day after Duterte said he would send Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to talk to exiled communist party founder and leader Jose Maria Sison in the Netherlands as a “last card” to end the decades-long insurgency. “Remember na nung bago matigil 'yung peace talks, sinabi na ng Presidente na ang gusto niyang venue ng peace talks will be here, so minimum requirement ‘yon,” Esperon told reporters on the sidelines of the change-of-command ceremony for the commanding general of the Philippine Army at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City. (Remember that even before the peace talks ceased, the President already said he wanted the venue of the peace talks to be here, so

New Sudan Leader Moves to Settle With Families of Terror Victims

WASHINGTON—Sudan is weeks away from reaching a settlement with families of those killed in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, one of the last steps in getting the African country removed from the U.S. list of state sponsorsof terrorism, new Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said in an interview. Mr. Hamdok was in Washington this week to attempt to persuade the Trump administration and government agencies that Sudan has turned over a new leaf after a revolution ousted dictator Omar al-Bashir earlier this year. Naval base shooter investigated for possible terrorism links

U.S. officials investigating the deadly attack by a Saudi aviation student at a naval air station in Florida were working Saturday to determine whether it was motivated by terrorism. An aviation student from Saudi Arabia opened fire in a classroom at the Naval Air Station Pensacola on Friday morning, killing three people. The assault, which prompted a massive law enforcement response and base lockdown, ended when a sheriff's deputy killed the attacker. Eight people were hurt in the attack, including the deputy and a second deputy who was with him. Family members on Saturday identified one of the victims as a 23-year-old recent graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who alerted first responders to where the shooter was even after he had been shot several times. “Joshua Kaleb Watson saved countless lives today with his own," Adam Watson wrote on Facebook. “He died a hero and we are beyond proud but there is a hole in our hearts that can never be filled."

Deadly car bombing hits Turkey convoy in north Syria

A deadly car bomb targeted a Turkish convoy in an area of northern Syria controlled by Turkey-backed fighters, a Britain-based war monitor said. The blast hit a convoy of Turkish troops headed towards a military base west of the town of Jarabulus in the northern province of Aleppo, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Wednesday.  The monitoring group did not give a precise death toll, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.  Ankara-led forces on October 9 launched a cross-border incursion against Kurdish fighters several hundreds of kilometres to the east of Jarabulus, taking control of a 120-kilometre (70-mile) long strip of land along Turkey’s southern frontier. When Colombia Caught Fire

Colombian politics have long been dominated by strongmen insisting on the need for “tough security measures.” But right now, with strikes and demonstrations gripping the country, it’s Colombia's hard-right government overseeing atrocities — not the guerrilla insurgents. Unlike their neighbors in other Latin American countries, Colombians aren’t used to taking to the streets. As people often say, Colombia isn’t Venezuela or Ecuador — or, indeed, Chile or Argentina. When there are protest marches, they don’t take on mass proportions — those in recent decades that enjoyed broad popular support can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Yet all this abruptly changed on November 21. What began as a national strike call by the country’s trade union federations rapidly transformed into a generalized cry of protest — one able to rally together a large cross section of Colombians with a wide range of demands. What glued the demonstration together was a common feeling: “We’ve had enou

Turkistan Islamic Party touts captured equipment, training camp in Afghanistan

Image
The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), a largely Uighur jihadist group that is affiliated with al Qaeda and also operates in Syria, released a new video earlier today showcasing it’s men fighting in Afghanistan. The video, dated for November 2019, is largely a photo montage featuring its fighters and their families. However, it also serves to tout its spoils taken from the Afghan military. Dozens of TIP’s men can be seen with captured Afghan military vehicles, including several Humvees. Captured weapons, including M16 and M4 variant rifles, can also be seen in the hands of the jihadists. In several photos, child soldiers, a recurring theme within TIP propaganda, are also shown with the older militants. This is not the first time the TIP has highlighted captured Afghan equipment and vehicles. Last year, it  released a combat video from Afghanistan which showed several captured Humvees  in the aftermath of the battle. In 2015, a similar video was released  in which another Humvee
