US police delegation visits Israel to learn counter-terrorism techniques, hold 9/11 ceremony

-- The JPost We’re involved in a global war on terror, and we need to work together and build solidarity between law enforcement officers from around the world,’ says US officer. Citing Israel’s preeminence in counter-terrorism – and the fact that it is the only country outside the United State to have a 9/11 memorial honoring every victim – a US police delegation said it wanted to visit the country on the 15th anniversary of the attack. Fifty-two officers from seven states arrived on Wednesday for one week to train with multiple units, visit the new state-of-the-art police academy in Beit Shemesh, and hold a ceremony at Jerusalem’s 9/11 memorial on Sunday. The US delegation was coordinated by Commander Diane Eldad-Sheetrit, head of the International Cooperation Department of the Israeli National Police.  Commander of Israeli Police National License and Permit Unit, Chief Superintendent, Yoni Zeitak, said on Thursday that the visit marks the first time that a police deleg

Islamic State makes terrorism threat facing U.S. gravest since 9/11attacks

The terrorist threat facing the U.S. and its European allies is “bigger, wider and deeper” than at any point since the Sept. 11 attacks 15 years ago, the White House’s top counterterrorism official said in a grim review of global threats Wednesday. The dramatic rise of Islamic State and its ability to expand around the world presents a danger that is “considerably less predictable” than those posed by  al Qaeda  at the height of their power, shortly after the 2001 attacks on the  Pentagon  and World Trade Center, National Counterterrorism Center chief  Nick Rasmussen  said. The assessment could pose a political problem for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, coming on a day when national security issues were dominating the campaign debate and Mrs. Clinton was looking to build on her role in helping shape foreign and security policy as President Obama’s first secretary of state. As Islamic State threatens to return to its terrorist roots in the wake of massive b

Prince Muhammad Bin Salman Three-Pronged Approach to Counter-Terrorism: AlAnsari

 | Huffington Post Accordingly  and intriguingly “While the strategy is centered around conventional methods of countering terrorism, such as monitoring, tracking down and eliminating terrorist threats, it will do so by focusing on eradicating any terrorist cyber-presence, combatting extremist ideologies, and establishing a coalition of Muslim countries that will aim to eliminate any form of terrorism that claims to operate under the name of Islam. As the focal points of the Deputy Crown Prince’s strategy, these particular aspects are emphasized in order to carry out and implement preemptive measures to not only prevent the occurrence of terrorism on Saudi Arabian soil, which is already surrounded by political turbulence and unrest, but the occurrence of terrorism anywhere in the world as well. However, even before this new strategy has been put into effect, Saudi Arabia has already been participating in an international coalition to combat terrorist organizations, chief of them being

ISIS twin suicide bombings at Baghdad mall kill 12

12 people were killed late on Friday in two suicide bombings claimed by Islamic State (ISIS) at a shopping mall in eastern Baghdad, police and hospital sources said. More than 40 people were wounded in the attack at Nakheel Mall across from the oil ministry, the sources said. One bomb went off at the entrance to the mall, the other in the parking lot. Unconfirmed amateur video published on Facebook showed what appeared to be four separate fires, including two cars engulfed in flames, under a highway overpass near the mall amid the wailing sirens of first responders. Amaq  news agency, which supports Islamic State, said in an online statement that two suicide bombers, one wearing a vest and the other in a car, had targeted "a gathering of Shi'ites" on Palestine Street. The fight against Islamic State, which seized a third of Iraq's territory in 2014, has exacerbated a long-running sectarian conflict in Iraq, mostly between the Shi'ite majority and the Sunn

US House passes bill allowing 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia

 - Rediff.com The United States house of representatives voted on Friday to pass a bill that would allow the families of victims of the 11 September terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia’s government for damages. The Senate passed the bill in May, so it now heads to US President Barack Obama’s desk for his signature. The bill, known as the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, would prevent Saudi Arabia and other countries with alleged ties to terrorist groups from invoking their legal immunity in US courts. It would override the 1976 Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which grants immunity to countries that aren’t designated state sponsors of terrorism. New York courts routinely dismiss claims filed by families of 9/11 victims against Saudi Arabia for allegedly helping to finance the terrorist attacks. Saudi Arabia denies any role in the attacks, though 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi citizens. House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte said international acts of terrori

‘Incarceration is the chance to SHINE’ Shocking spread of radical Islamin French prisons

Image
Islam is being massively spread in France's prisons by convicted jihadists In a shocking report, convicted terrorists will mingling with regular inmates, and radicalising them, prison officers say. A prison warden said: “Our ministers keep saying we are at war against radical Islam, but if only people knew how sloppily this ‘war’ was being waged on our end, they would be hugely dismayed.” Radicalised prisoners need to be completely isolated from other inmates. What we need is a separate building, just for them Philippe Campagne In an interview with Le Figaro newspaper, he added: “Isolation units are never 100 per cent safe.” The prison guard explained how an extremist had to be transferred from one jail to another via helicopter because he was so dangerous, but that he had been placed in a classic prison cell – and not in solitary confinement – upon his arrival.  The warden said: “The other inmates put him on a pedestal they moment they saw him land in a VIP hel

Prisons: Harvard for Radicals

"If they arrest me and put me in prison, I will carry on in prison. I will radicalise everyone in prison." — Anjem Choudary, quoted by the  Daily Mail . One of the most troubling factors is the vulnerability of fresh converts to radicalisation. Starting out with minimal knowledge of their new faith, converts are easily lured into adopting strict forms of Islam, guided by existing radicals and by the extremist literature freely available in prisons. "Political correctness in prisons is allowing extremism to flourish because guards are too afraid of confronting Muslims." Extremists are "exploiting... staff fear of being labelled racist." —  The Telegraph , citing a report by Ian Acheson, a former British prison governor. Said al-Shihri, after his release from Guantanamo in 2007, completed and passed the Saudi deradicalisation program, then became deputy leader of al-Qaeda in Yemen, orchestrating the bombing of the U.S. embassy there in 2008. Russia and the United States Reach New Agreement on Syria Conflict

By DAVID E. SANGER and ANNE BARNARD September 9, 2016 GENEVA —  Russia  and the United States agreed early Saturday on a new plan to reduce violence in the Syrian conflict that, if successful, could lead for the first time to joint military targeting by the two powers against Islamic jihadists in  Syria . The agreement was reached after 10 months of failed attempts to halt the fighting and of suspended efforts to reach a political settlement to an increasingly complex conflict that began more than five years ago. The conflict has left nearly half a million people dead, created the largest refugee crisis since World War II and turned Syria into a prime incubator of recruiting for the Islamic State and the Nusra Front, an affiliate of Al Qaeda. Secretary of State  John Kerry  and his Russian counterpart, Sergey V. Lavrov, announced the agreement in Geneva after weeks of negotiations that were marred, in  President Obama ’s words, by deep “mistrust” between the Russians and Americans, who

Uighurs, Wary of China’s Response to Kyrgyzstan Attack, Trying to StopMilitancy

A prominent ethnic Uighur rights group says it fears China will exploit a Uighur militant’s suicide attack on its embassy in Kyrgyzstan last week to repress minority Uighurs in the neighboring Chinese region of Xinjiang. In its first detailed public response to the August 30 suicide car bombing that killed only the attacker and wounded several Kyrgyz security guards at the Chinese embassy in Bishkek, a  World Uyghur Congress representative told VOA that his group condemns the Bishkek blast and “all kinds of terrorism”, including what he referred to as “Chinese state terrorism” against its own people. WUC’s Washington-based vice president, Omer Kanat, was referring to the Chinese government’s crackdown on Uighur militants whom Beijing blames for several deadly attacks on civilians around the country and for sectarian violence between minority Uighurs and majority Han Chinese in Xinjiang in recent years. Kanat said he expects Beijing to use the Bishkek attack as a pretext to int

Far-right mayor claims real French people are ‘European, white, Catholic’

A far-right mayor in France has made headlines for his anti-Muslim rhetoric once again, saying that being French means being “European, white, and Catholic.” Now, an anti-racism organization has announced it is taking legal action against the politician. Robert Ménard, the far-right mayor of the southern French town of Béziers,  told  French news channel LCI that being French means,  “in the words of Charles De Gaulle, being European, white and Catholic.”   He went on to complain that 91 percent of children in some French schools are Muslim. Ticking Time Bomb Of Foreign ISIS Fighters Returning Home

With the Islamic State group on the back foot after a string of military defeats, foreign volunteers for the jihadist group are returning home and creating a massive security challenge, experts say.   These radicalised individuals, who have often received weapons and explosives training, are a "time bomb" as they flee the Islamic State and Syria and return home, France's top prosecutor has said.   The risk is especially acute for France, which has been attacked in the past year by jihadists hardened from time spent with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.   "At some time or another we will be faced with the return of a large number of French fighters and their families," Francois Molins, France's anti-terrorism prosecutor, told the daily Le Monde.   "Nearly 700 jihadists who are either French or live in France are in Iraq and Syria at the moment," Prime Minister Manuel Valls said last week.   "Their return represents an additional threat to our nationa
