The growth model & counter-insurgency strategy of PM Modi govt against Maoism and red terrorism

India’s comprehensive counter-insurgency strategy has significantly weakened red terrorism, reducing violence, reclaiming territory, and restoring normalcy in affected regions. Through a blend of secu...   Urban Maoists, part of red terrorism, a phrase that has gained popularity in recent years, refer to individuals and organisations in urban areas that sympathise with, support, or actively assist with the Maoist insurgency.  Urban Maoists and Maoists pose a threat to India’s internal security and have numerous supporters in hostile countries, with whom we have been fighting a proxy war for many years. These Urban Maoists and Maoists, much like a global business behemoth looking to buy out local competition, are ideal conduits for furthering their assault against India. These urban sympathisers are pseudo-intelligentsia, well-spoken, and pose as social workers, academics, or human rights advocates.  But their real goal is to destabilise the country by enlisting you...

Why anti-terrorism squad arrived after Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in Venice — no, it’s not due to protests

It wasn’t just the star-studded guest list or opulent venues that made headlines during Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s €40 million wedding in Venice, it was also the unexpected arrival of Italy’s anti-terrorism unit. But contrary to what many might assume, their involvement had nothing to do with the widespread protests that shadowed the billionaire’s celebration. The unit was there since a dress was missing. As per a report by  The Guardian , Sánchez packed 27 designer dresses for her wedding with Bezos — but reportedly left with only 26. Her main ceremony gown is safe. According to  Corriere della Sera , the missing garment may have been stolen by someone who gatecrashed Friday night’s party. The situation reportedly became so chaotic that Italy’s anti-terrorism unit, Digos, was called in to the island   The couple, now honeymooning in Taormina, Sicily,  tied the knot  during a three-day celebration on the exclusive island of San Giorgio. Should France’s incel threat be treated like terrorism?

Image
An 18-year-old Frenchman was detained and charged on July 1 with being part of a terrorist criminal enterprise. Amid reports of an increase in masculinism – a belief in the supremacy of men and advocacy of outmoded gender roles – among young men, it is the first time that French anti-terror authorities have launched an investigation into someone for activities linked to the "involuntary celibate” (incel) movement.  France 's  counter-terrorism  authority has launched its first investigation into the threat posed by the toxic misogyny of masculinist,  incel  culture.  An 18-year-old identified as Timothy G. was charged and placed in pre-trial detention on Tuesday for being part of a “terrorist criminal conspiracy” and making threats.  He had two knives in his possession when he was arrested on June 28 in the Saint-Étienne region by the French domestic intelligence service, the DGSI, near the secondary school he attended. Africa: Mali army says at least 80 militants killed after Jihadists attacked military posts

Image
Malian army on Tuesday said that it “neutralised” more than 80 militants after Jihadist fighters launched coordinated attacks on military posts in several towns across Mali, marking the third major offensive against the army in the past month After last August’s student-led uprising and the subsequent ouster of now-deposed PM Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s textile and garment production had just started to come back on track. The industry is the backbone of the country’s economy, accounting for 80 per cent of the country’s exports. However, the Donald Trump administration on Monday (July 7)  slammed  his wrecking ball into the industry by imposing a whopping 35 per cent tariff on the impoverished South Asian economy. This is more than double the 16 per cent currently levied by the US, a major export destination for Dhaka. Bangladesh exported $8.36 billion worth of goods to the United States in 2024, while imports from there amounted to $2.21 billion, according to the Bangladesh B...

A Group of Young Cybercriminals Poses the ‘Most Imminent Threat’ of Cyberattacks Right Now

Empty grocery store   shelves and grounded planes tend to signal a crisis, whether it’s an   extreme weather event ,   public health crisis , or   geopolitical emergency . But these scenes of chaos in recent weeks in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada were caused instead by financially motivated cyberattacks—seemingly perpetrated by a collective of joyriding teens. A notorious cybercriminal group often called Scattered Spider is known for using social engineering techniques to infiltrate target companies by tricking IT help desk workers into granting them system access. Researchers say that the group seems to gain expertise about the backend systems commonly used by businesses in a particular industry and then uses this knowledge to hit a cluster of targets before moving on to another sector. The group often deploys ransomware or conducts data extortion attacks once it has compromised its victims. Amid increasing pressure from law enforcement last y...

Emulating Syria’s Islamists, al-Qaeda-linked JNIM seeks power in Africa’s Sahel

In Africa’s turbulent Sahel region, the al-Qaeda-linked JNIM jihadist group is expanding its influence by repeated massacres, food distribution and signing pacts with local authorities to position itself as a key political player. The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) has not ruled out governing states and has condemned bloody attacks it accuses mercenaries from the private Russian company Wagner and its jihadist rivals of carrying out.. JNIM has become the most influential jihadist group and, according to the United Nations, the most significant threat in the Sahel, using weapons and politics to weaken states and position itself as a credible alternative. A coordinated attack on several military installations in western Mali during the last few days, bears the group’s hallmarks. The JNIM claimed responsibility for the strikes in seven towns. The group has “oriented its propaganda towards defending marginalised populations and victims of violence, frequently publishing ...
