via U.S. alert over German al Qaeda threat – CNN.com . Berlin, Germany (CNN) -- U.S. officials extended a travel alert in Germany and urged Americans to remain wary after terrorist organization al Qaeda posted messages in recent months threatening attacks in the country. The alert issued Thursday will remain in effect until February 10. It replaces one issued in September that expired Wednesday, a news statement said. It urged Americans in Germany to keep up with news reports and to consider the security procedures in place when they visit hotels, restaurants, and other entertainment and recreation venues. "Over the past few months, al Qaeda has released videos threatening to conduct terrorist attacks against German interests," the statement said. "While these threats initially mentioned the German federal elections in September, al Qaeda continues to threaten Germany." Germany is investigating all threats, the U.S. State Department said. Iran says Pakistan freed Sunni rebel leader before attack

SOURCE: IANS ON YAHOO Tehran, Nov 7 (DPA) Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards accused Pakistan Friday of releasing the leader of a Sunni rebel group ahead of a deadly attack it carried out in southeast Iran, state television IRIB reported. Some 42 people, including at least seven senior commanders of the Revolutionary Guards, were killed last month in the bombing carried out in the province of Sistan-Beluchistan. A Guards commander accused the Pakistani intelligence agency of supporting the group Jundallah (Soldiers of God) and its leader, Abdolmalik Rigi, who claimed responsibility for the attack. Pakistan-based Jundallah has been involved in a series of clashes with the Revolutionary Guards, who are also responsible for protecting the country's borders. 'Abdolmalik Rigi was arrested Sep 26 on a street in Quetta, but he was released an hour later, following intervention by the Pakistani intelligence service,' IRIB quoted the deputy head of the Revolutionary Guards,

India probes Maoists' foreign links

Source: ASIA TIMES By Siddharth Srivastava  NEW DELHI - As India's military, police, intelligence and civilian authorities combine resources to launch the nation's largest-ever offensive to root out Naxalite (communist) rebels, high-level government sources are pointing towards growing evidence of foreign support of the Maoist rebels.  Among the "outside forces" at work are remnants of the Sri Lankan Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), claim Indian security agencies. Contacts have told Asia Times Online that the LTTE, defeated in May by the Sri Lankan government after decades of struggle, is training the Maoists in the type of guerilla war tactics for which the LTTE were known, including surprise hit-and-run tactics and jungle warfare.  The location of these LTTE-Maoist training centers is thought to be remote parts of central and southern India already under the complete control of the leftists, who have recently been dubbed the "Red Taliban".  Secur

Baghdad - Car Bomb Footage - 10-25-09

Associated Press BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two powerful suicide car bombs blew up outside the Justice Ministry and city government offices in downtown Baghdad Sunday, killing at least 136 people in the worst attack in more than two years. Iraqi leaders said the attacks aimed to disrupt political progress in the months leading up to January's crucial elections. While violence has dropped dramatically in the country since the height of the sectarian tensions, the latest bombings underscored the precarious nature of the security gains and the insurgency's abilities to still pull off devastating attacks in the center of what is supposed to be one of Baghdad's most secure areas. The street where the blasts occurred had just been reopened to vehicle traffic a few months ago when blast walls were repositioned to allow traffic closer to the government buildings. Such changes were touted by Iraq's prime minister as a sign that safety was returning to the city. "The perpetrators of th

Philippines to crack down on militants after beheading of kidnapped teacher

Severed head of teacher found after family failed to raise ransom demanded by militants believed to be linked to al-Qaida Source: Guardian The Philippine government today promised to hunt down al-Qaida -linked militants suspected of beheading a schoolteacher whose family failed to raise a ransom demanded by his kidnappers. Workers at a petrol station on southern Jolo island found the severed head of Gabriel Canizares, 36, in a bag three weeks after suspected Abu Sayyaf militants stopped a passenger minibus and dragged him away in front of his colleagues, said a regional military commander, Major General Benjamin Dolorfino. The militants, notorious for bombings, ransom kidnappings and beheadings, were reportedly demanding a ransom of 2m pesos (about £25,500) for his release. Dolorfino said the demand was later halved but Canizares' family was able to raise only 150,000 pesos. A school principal usually makes at least 23,000 pesos a month in th

FBI reassessing past look at Fort Hood suspect

Source: AP on Google By DEVLIN BARRETT (AP) – 32 minutes ago WASHINGTON — Nearly a year before Maj. Nidal Hasan allegedly went on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, terrorism investigators conducted an "assessment" of him before deciding he did not pose a threat. After the shooting, the FBI is doing a new assessment — of its own conduct. The Army psychiatrist is believed to have acted alone despite repeated communications — intercepted by authorities — with a radical imam overseas, U.S. officials said Monday. The FBI will conduct an internal review to see whether it mishandled early information about the man accused in the bloody rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 29. President Barack Obama was joining grieving families and comrades of the victims Tuesday at a memorial service at the sprawling Texas Army base. Hasan, awake and talking to doctors, met his lawyer Monday in the San Antonio hospital where he is recovering, under guard, from gunshot wounds in the assault
