Bijapur's most feared maoist commander surrenders, locals demand death penalty

  RAIPUR: Ten days after the surrender of “biggest Naxal commander of Bijapur” who is known for killing more than 100 people, the local residents have protested against his possibility to mainstream society and organized a rally in Gangaloor, they demanded strict punishment to the surrendered cadre. Raju Kalmu, the former Sarpanch of Gangaloor, revealed that between 2005 and his surrender, Dinesh extorted money from truck drivers, contractors, and others in the area through force. He added that anyone who spoke out against him was killed, and he was responsible for significant damage to government property, as well as attacks on security personnel. Kalmu said that such a dreaded Naxal should never be pardoned by the government, and that an FIR should be filed against him for his past crimes, with harshest punishment like death penalty. Security Forces Foil Maoist Explosive Threat in Jharkhand

  ecurity forces in Jharkhand have averted a major threat by defusing two explosive devices and uncovering a cache of arms in the West Singhbhum district, according to local authorities. The operation, conducted on Thursday, was a combined effort by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and Jharkhand Police. During the operation, officers acting on intelligence reports discovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weighing a combined 18 kilograms, in the village of Diku Ponga, under the Chotanagra police station jurisdiction. Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar stated bomb disposal squads were called in to safely neutralize the threat posed by these devices, believed to be planted by Maoist insurgents. Dalai Lama says his successor will be born outside China

  New Delhi Reuters  —  The Dalai Lama’s successor will be born outside China, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism says in a new book, raising the stakes in a dispute with Beijing over control of the Himalayan region he  fled more than six decades ago . Tibetans worldwide want the institution of the Dalai Lama to continue after the 89-year-old’s death, he writes in “Voice for the Voiceless,” which was reviewed by Reuters and is being released on Tuesday. North Korean Hackers Use Google Play Malware to Steal SMS, Calls & Screenshots

  Cybersecurity researchers at Lookout Threat Lab have uncovered a sophisticated Android surveillance tool dubbed “KoSpy,” which appears to be the work of North Korean state-sponsored hackers. This newly discovered spyware has been active since March 2022, with the most recent samples detected in March 2024, indicating a long-running and persistent cyber espionage campaign. The malicious software, attributed with medium confidence to the North Korean advanced  persistent threat group  known as APT37 (also called ScarCruft), masquerades as legitimate utility applications to trick users into installing it on their devices. Once installed, KoSpy can exfiltrate an extensive range of sensitive user data through a sophisticated command and control infrastructure, predominantly targeting Korean and English-speaking individuals. Crackdown On Illegal Arms In Manipur: Nearly 1,000 Weapons Surrendered After Governor’s Ultimatum

  After months of violence and unrest, the Manipur government, under the President’s Rule, has made significant recoveries of weapons over the past three weeks. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla had issued a strong appeal, urging those in possession of illegal arms to surrender immediately. The appeal was accompanied by an ultimatum—failure to comply would result in strict action. According to a government official, the response was overwhelming. In the days that followed, security forces recorded the surrender of approximately 990 firearms, including sophisticated assault rifles and handguns.
