UAE to exercise zero tolerance against Al Qaeda, Daesh

Air strikes on Wednesday and Thursday were to send a message that no terror group will be spared in Yemen, the UAE said. The UAE has made clear that there can be no compromise against terrorism in Yemen as Daesh claimed an attack on Friday which killed three local troops. Air strikes against targets in Aden will ensure Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and Daesh are not allowed to recoup as the Arab Coalition continues it campaign against the Houthis, the UAE said. There are concerns that Al Qaeda has used the recent fighting in Aden to strike coalition forces using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). UAE air strikes on Wednesday and Thursday were to send a message that no terror group will be spared in Yemen, the UAE said. "The operation was carried out in accordance with the coalition's rules of engagement and applicable principles of international law, including the Geneva Convention," said the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement. Privacy In Crypto: The Impact of Rising Terrorism Concerns

In what seems to be an unrelenting nightmare, the cryptocurrency world is once again about to face another blow to its reputation. A  recent study   by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reveals that terrorist groups are using bitcoin and crypto assets to finance their activities. This comes at a time when the   Financial Action Task Force  (FATF) has issued new guidelines for its member countries on how to handle cryptocurrencies. What does this really mean for the blockchain community? Crypto privacy is under attack Data privacy and censorship resistance provide advantages for unscrupulous dealings. When cryptocurrencies are used wrongly, they can be used as a means to  evade government  oversight. As a consequence, crypto privacy has become under attack. A report  by MEMRI  says that “Cryptocurrency has come to terrorism with an array of terrorist organizations exploiting the anonymity afforded by blockchain technology for fundraising and finances.” What has c

When Bomb Blasts Are a Job Hazard, This Test Could Help Measure Their Effects

Similar to the way the National Football League is addressing brain injuries among its players by testing their neuropsychological health at the beginning and end of each season, the Pentagon has in recent years ordered all service members to complete cognitive evaluations before combat deployments, as well as after any blast injuries — such as from an enemy improvised bomb explosion. These tests are used to measure troop readiness, though, and are not necessarily entered into the soldier, sailor, airman or Marine’s medical records. At the joint-service explosive ordnance disposal school at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., that is about to change. For the first time, all incoming students at the United States military’s bomb disposal school in Florida will complete a computer-based test to assess their cognitive abilities. It is not designed to measure their ability to complete the demanding course; instead, it will serve as a baseline reading of their neurologica

The letter, issued by terrorist organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen, states that “we are very close to Azadi and we need to strengthen the process”. The return of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir seems to be troubling Pakistan-based terrorist organisations. Irked by the development, the terror outfits have been threatening local residents in the region, asking them to not open their shops and ply taxis. If this is not enough, the terrorists have also been threatening locals against reopening schools and educational institutions. One of the diktats issued in a letter by these outfits is that girls should not be allowed to walk out of their homes. Hong Kong democracy activists get bail, protest march banned

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong and another core member of a pro-democracy group were granted bail on Friday after being charged with inciting people to join a protest in June, while authorities denied permission for a major march as they took what appears to be a harder line on this summer’s protests. The organisers of Saturday’s march, the fifth anniversary of a decision by China against allowing fully democratic elections for the leader of Hong Kong, said they were calling it off after an appeals board denied permission.  It was unclear whether some protesters would still demonstrate on their own. The police commander of Hong Kong island, Kwok Pak Chung, appealed to people to stay away from any non-authorised rallies, warning that those caught could face a five-year jail term. He told a daily news conference that he was aware of social media messages urging people to take strolls or hold rallies in the name of religion.  Kwok urged the public to “make a clear break with all

Gold Forgery Crisis: Fake-Branded Bars Slip Dirty Gold Into World Markets

Gold bars fraudulently stamped with the logos of major refineries are being inserted into the global market to launder smuggled or illegal gold. Reuters London : A forgery crisis is quietly roiling the world's gold industry. Gold bars fraudulently stamped with the logos of major refineries are being inserted into the global market to launder smuggled or illegal gold, refining and banking executives tell Reuters. The fakes are hard to detect, making them an ideal fund-runner for narcotics dealers or warlords. In the last three years, bars worth at least $50 million stamped with Swiss refinery logos, but not actually produced by those facilities, have been identified by all four of Switzerland's leading gold refiners and found in the vaults of JPMorgan Chase & Co., one of the major banks at the heart of the market in bullion, said senior executives at gold refineries, banks and other industry sources.
