Left wing Extremism: Police confirm Maoist presence in Chekkery; register UAPA case against three

Peravoor (Kannur): Police confirmed that Maoists entered Chekkery tribal colony at Kolayald here and registered a UAPA case against three persons.
Police identified the accused in Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) as Maoist leader Sundari and two others who could be identified on sight.
The case has been registered based on a complaint from a house owner in the colony. A five-member team of Maoists including three women had entered village on last Saturday and Monday. However, police have registered a case against only three.
It is learned that Maoists who entered the village spoke in Kannada and had asked one of the residents to tune into a Kannada TV channel. The Maoists also entered a house, cooked food and ate before returning to the forest. The residents also told police that all of the Maoists were carrying guns.
Though the five Maoists spent over three hours in the colony, the police came to know about the incident days later. The Maoists had entered three houses but none of the villagers filed a complaint.
Meanwhile, there is allegation that despite police confirming the presence of Maoists, Thunderbolt is yet to visit the spot or conduct searches inside the forest area. Thunderbolt is stationed at Kelakam station limits near Peravoor. However, the officials are not ready to conduct effective searches inside the Kannavam forests.
