India sees improvement in Global Terrorism Index

India Business News: India's Global Terrorism Index score has declined since 2016, indicating a decrease in terror and crime incidents due to improved security measures. H NEW DELHI: India's Global Terrorism Index (GTI) score of 7.43 and crime index score of 44.7 indicated a decline in terror and crime incidents since 2016 which can be attributed to strengthened security measures. A recent report by Ficci Cascade however highlighted that there is further scope to save USD 159 billion by curbing illicit trade. The report underscored the impact of illicit trade, which threatens national security in addition to endangering legitimate manufacturing, reducing government revenue, jeopardizing public health, and eroding consumer and investor trust. It thus becomes crucial to address this issue for India's economic stability and fostering an environment conducive to sustainable growth and ease of doing business. Tax authorities play a pivotal role in combating illicit trade, Anil

Victims of terrorism and their right to access justice: Challenges and solutions

Victims’ right to access to justice is a fundamental human right and a principle of the rule of law.  Numerous international and regional human rights legal instruments refer to the right to access to justice which encompasses, inter alia, the right to an effective remedy and the right to a fair trial. To   exercise  this right, States have the obligation to provide adequate avenues for victims to access the judicial system and have their cases heard before a competent jurisdiction.  Terrorist acts often entail a large number of victims, with sometimes multiple nationalities and different kinds of harm (material, psychological, mental, emotional) involved. These harms can have a long-lasting impact on victims’ lives. Among victims’ needs after the commission of crimes linked to terrorism, access to justice plays a primordial role. While survivors are trying to rebuild their lives and overcome the trauma, States do not always  ensure adequate support  for them and their families. In Jun

How Lawrence Bishnoi Funded Khalistani Terror in Canada, India and Thailand

A probe led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi funded Khalistani activities in Canada, India and Thailand. Guns, gangs & extremism — how nexus of organised crime and Sikh separatism took root in Canada

The India-Canada diplomatic flare-up has once again brought attention to an old problem: the long-standing nexus between Indo-Canadian gangsters and Sikh separatists. New Delhi:  When the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for killing Sukha Deneka, a pro-Khalistan gangster, in Canada this week, social media erupted with memes. One featured Bishnoi’s associate Goldy Brar with the caption, “ Zara hum bhi to dekhein humse bada zimmedar kaun paida ho gaya  (let’s see who is more responsible than us),”— a reference to Indian gangsters taking credit for numerous murders in India and Canada. Undeterred by the downturn in India-Canada ties, social media fan pages and accounts glorifying gangsters and Sikh extremists continue to thrive. Some dedicated to Goldy Brar, Bishnoi, and other gangsters brim with reels glamorising gun violence. Others focus on the pro-Khalistan sentiment, with excerpts from past speeches of radical Sikh preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and captions such a
