The Growing Threat of Homegrown Religious Extremism

THE SUSPECT IN THE MINNESOTA MURDERS, Vance Luther Boelter, has been charged, for now, with second degree murder. He allegedly killed two people, Melissa and Mark Hortman, in cold blood, and shot and wounded two others. According to Minnesota police, he showed up at the homes of at least two other people who were on his 45-person hit list (they were away). In these situations, one expects to hear that the shooter was in the midst of a psychotic episode, isolated from family and alienated from friends. We may yet learn that Boelter had some such challenges (there are rumors of  financial troubles), but he did not appear disabled by delusions. He fitted out his vehicle to resemble a police car and masqueraded as a cop. Unlike most people in the throes of florid psychosis, he had been holding down a job. Nor was he a loner. He was a married father of five and owner of a  large and valuable home . He was not friendless. His lifelong friend, David Carlson, choked up when reading Bo...

PM Modi’s Security Crucial in Canada, Now a Haven for Khalistani and Islamist Terrorists

AI Generated Summary One of the oldest and most organized Khalistani terrorist groups, Babbar Khalsa has roots in the 1920s Babbar Akali movement and officially formed after the 1978 clashes between the Akhand Kirtani Jatha and the Nirankaris. This is especially significant considering the manner in which Khalistani supporters have gathered around the G7 summit venue and have carried out shameful acts, such as creating tableaux showing PM Modi imprisoned and in handcuffs. It is currently overseen by Mohinder Singh Bual, a resident of Vancouver and a close associate of Canadian Khalistani leader Jagmeet Singh. In recent years, Canada has become a safe haven for Khalistani and Islamist terrorists. As Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the G7 Summit, Modi’s security becomes a critical concern for the Canadian government. This is especially significant considering the manner in which Khalistani supporters have gathered around the G...

Wagner vs Africa Corps: The future of Russian paramilitaries in Mali

Image
As mercenaries leave Mali, experts say that remaining Kremlin-controlled Africa Corps is more than just ‘Wagner rebranded’. Niko Vorobyov An undated photograph handed out by French military shows Russian mercenaries in northern Mali [French Army via AP] This month, the Russian mercenary outfit Wagner Group announced its total  withdrawal  from Mali, claiming it had completed its mission after three and a half years of operations in the West African country. For years, Wagner had been battling rebels and armed groups on behalf of the Malian government, as well as asserting Russia’s interests in the Sahel. But as Wagner leaves, security advisers from the Africa Corps, a Kremlin-controlled paramilitary group, will remain in their place, ensuring a lingering presence of Russian forces. So, what does this change mean for Mali, and is there a difference between the two Russian paramilitary groups and their mission in Africa? An ‘anti-Western coalition’? Mali’s government has, for de...
