Fundamental issues: Burqa dutt, Selective appliance of Freedom of expression

As ironies go, it probably doesn’t get any better than this. A panic-stricken Marxist government bundling up a feminist Muslim writer in the swathes of a protective black burqa and parceling her off to a state ruled by the BJP — a party that the Left would otherwise have you believe is full of religious bigots. The veil on her head must have caused Taslima Nasreen almost as much discomfort as the goons hunting her down. She once famously took on the ‘freedom of choice’ school of India’s Muslim intelligentsia by writing that “covering a woman’s head means covering her brain and ensuring that it doesn’t work”. She’s always argued that whether or not Islam sanctifies the purdah is not the point. A shroud designed to throttle a woman’s sexuality, she says, must be stripped off irrespective. In a signed piece in the Outlook called ‘Let’s Burn the Burqa’, Nasreen took on liberal activists like Shabana Azmi (who has enraged enough mad mullahs herself to know exactly what it feels like) for p

The Aurangzebs are here allaround

I cant resist saying this otherwise who on earth would go to an extent of killing unknown and anonymous people whom they have not met ever in their life or know their faces for whatever ideology they represent and however true it is. This report from Hindustan times shows things as they are if not more clear. Close on the heels of Friday's blasts in Uttar Pradesh, another email threatening a series of explosions, including an attack on the visiting Pakistani cricket team, is doing the rounds on Saturday. Television channel 'India TV' here claimed to have received an email from " guru_boys2000@yahoo.com " on Saturday morning in which the message threatened the visiting Pakistani cricket team to withdraw from the Test series. The source and authenticity of the message were yet to be verified. "We will check the message once the television channel hands us over the email," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said. Today's email th

World without terrorism: : Hindustan is like a sleeping tiger! - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

World without terrorism The FACT India event was organised earlier in Feb 2007 This is just recollection courtesy: hindujagruthi 'Hindustan is like a sleeping tiger. The mice are eating at it but it is still sleeping' was the mention made by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in a program " World Without Terrorism " recently organized at St. Andrew's College, Bandra (W) Mumbai, by FACT (Foundation Against Continuing Terrorism) and ‘ THE ART OF LIVING ’. The convenor of the conference was a French Journalist Francois Gautier , who heads FACT. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Shri. Gopinath Munde, Shri. Karthikeyan were present. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar began with a prayer – ‘Sahana vavatu, Sahanau Bhunaktu, Sahaviryai Karavavahai, Tejasvinavadhitamastu Ma Vidvisavahai Om Shantih, Shantih, Shantih’. [May He protect us both. May he nourish us both. May we both work together with great energy. May our study be enlightening and fruitful. May we never hate each other. Om Peace Peace Peace.] A Kabi

H H Sri Sri Ravishankar Heals the wounds of Nandigram

Ravishankar, who reached the troubled area in the morning, went to a camp at the Brajamohan Tiwari Sikhsayatan near Nandigram market and gave sarees, fruits and dry food to nearly 1,200 inmates. "I would like to bring the warring groups across the table and work out a solution," the Art of Living founder said. Noting that identification with ideology has taken precedence over human values in Nandigram, he said the need of the hour was to reorient the embattled groups towards loyalty to human values. Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has offered to mediate for peace in Nandigram, saying he will soon seek an appointment with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to work out a solution. "I would like to bring the warring groups across the table and work out a solution," the Art of Living founder told reporters here after a day-long visit to the troubled Nandigram area. Asked whether he would seek an appointment with Bhattacharjee, he said, "Yes, of

OXYMORONS and the expressions that they use

The intellectual leftist and Freedom of expression and the Common man and the Right to information well they sounded synonymous (atleast to us the common man on the street) not any more. Left against Nandigram issue to be raised in Parliament (This is from NDTV ) Press Trust of India Thursday, November 15, 2007 (New Delhi) As opposition BJP plans to disrupt Parliament proceedings on the Nandigram issue, the Left parties today decided not to allow it to be raised saying it was a ''state subject''.After a meeting of four Left parties, the leaders maintained that the Nandigram issue was a ''state law and order subject''.They said it could not be discussed in Parliament as rules did not permit such matters to be raised.''Parliament functions according to rules. Whatever the rules permit, can be discussed. Nandigram can be discussed in the West Bengal Assembly but not in Parliament,'' CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told a joint press conference w

Media says CPM fails to understand Muslims: Well well

Yes you heard it right understand and understand and CPM thats wonderful well do we call it oxymoron or somethingelse. CPM fails to understand Bengal, Muslims (IBNLIVE.COM) A city infamous for bandhs and strikes, Kolkata suffered another jolt to its reputation. But has Bengal’s image taken a beating because of the protests in Kolkata? And do the protests in Kolkata reflect Muslim anger against the CPM? CNN-IBN’s Senior Editor Sagarika Ghose asked this on Face The Nation to a panel comprising Kolkata Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya, Shahanshah Jehangir, president of the Indian Union Muslim League in West Bengal, filmmaker Goutam Ghose and senior journalist Swapan Dasgupta. The CPM-led Left Front government first bungled in Nandigram, then it botched up the investigation into graphics designer Rizwanur Rehman’s murder and on Wednesday it failed to foresee the violence in Kolkata. Why has the Left Front government failed to read the people's mood so many times? Mayor Bhattacharyya d

Nandigram and pseudo secularism: terrorism prospering

FACT has been following closely the hypocrasy of Left lobbyists (yes they are) over the Gujarat violence and other issues related to the communal (so called) violences and flare ups. They have always called themselves the harbingers if not demi gods that would protect the Muslims and other minorities (God knows what that means.). All said and done we the layman in us are compelled to think that Muslims when it comes to protesting are the best and violently best. Thats shows through out the world. Why and how in the world in a democratically empowered nation (I am not talking of our neighbours its just Hindustan as they call us) are people compelled to violence in a peaceful rally. Come on give us a break when u say the external elements have done all the wrong things and we werwe spectators. Mr Home minister you are a real one aren't you ? Look at what the blogging community feels about this. This is one blog from Seriously sandeep The Indian media sometimes acknowledges truth when

THE HARMAT BRIGADE of the CPI(M) and vandalism of AIMF

THE HARMAT BRIGADE Evidence gathered by the CBI is believed to suggest that West Bengal Police acted in connivance with the CPI(M)’s ‘Harmat Brigade’, comprising Marxist cadre trained in hit-and-run tactics, during the March 14 violence that claimed at least 14 lives and left scores injured at Nandigram.According to reports, the evidence suggests at least two senior IPS officials had held several meetings with a CPI(M) MP, an MLA and a zilla parishad member at the State Electricity Board guesthouse in Kolaghat where they chalked out the action plan. In order to keep the deliberations a closely guarded secret, even the District Superintendent of Police was not allowed to participate in the meetings, the last of which was held on March 13 evening. Nandigram condemnation

Image
sea of Protestors Protests protests everywhere Commie goons We condemn the human rights violation and the violence at Nandigram since 6 November 2007, which demonstrated, yet again, after the massacre of 14 March 2007, the way in which the ruling party in West Bengal does not hesitate to use the state machinery to meet its own narrow political ends. The planned inaction of the police since 6 November, the cordoning off of a large area by cadres of the CPI(M) without interference by the police, is no different in kind from what happened on 14 March. In both cases, the police acted as agents of the ruling party, something which goes completely against the norms of democratic governance. This nexus between the ruling party and the state machinery becomes clearer when we consider that the police inaction in Nandigram has been matched by excessive police enthusiasm in cracking down on citizens in Kolkata and unleashing terror upon peaceful protestors. We demand an immediate initiation of a
