According to the FSB, the so-called Muhajiroun and Salsabil charity funds raised money for the supposed purpose of building mosques. As a result, up to 38 million rubles (£452,515) have been sent to Syria since 2016, the investigation is still ongoing, however. The video shows the moment that Russian security forces raided the various

What to do with former terrorist inmates in Indonesia

Image
The growing complexity of counter-terror efforts in Indonesia means the country can no longer centralise its Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) initiatives in Jakarta. Instead, Indonesia should start by involving local governments in the crafting of sustainable CVE programs.  Civil society organisations (CSO) in Indonesia have always been at the forefront of reintegration programs for former terrorist suspects. Some of their initiatives include integrating ex-terrorists back into society by providing them with the means and training to start small business enterprises. Unemployment does not necessarily lead an individual to commit terrorist acts, but it doesn’t help. It may predispose them to approach  radical networks  as a source of refuge and counsel. But in the author’s recent interview with a former terrorist convict, Agus (alias Agus Marshal) revealed that he has never been exposed to CSO initiatives. Agus, a Central Jakarta native, is currently employed as a cleaning super

Mehr News Agency TEHRAN, Dec. 08 (MNA) – The Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said the next century belongs to Asia, adding the US and some other Western countries seek to undermine Asian countries’ capabilities by war and terrorism.  The Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani made the comments during the closing ceremony of the 2nd conference of parliament speakers of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, China and Russia on the challenges of terrorism, which was held in Tehran on Saturday. “Over the last three decades, we have witnessed the largest number of wars and the biggest presence of terrorist groups in Asia as it can be seen in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan,” Larijani noted. Western strategic mistake in the Middle East

The widespread terrorist acts and catastrophic events of 2016 in Europe have revealed new approaches to extremist and radical groups to create fears among Westerners. The investigation of the destructive actions of two past years has shown that such terrorist operations were based on networked and coordinated approaches. That is, the terrorist cells carried out their destructive actions based on a timetable group plan. In such circumstances, it is possible to observe such behaviors, given the familiarity of security guards and intelligence agencies in Europe, but it is difficult to change the approaches to monitoring such actions in the two past year. Instead of taking collective action, terrorists use the means of mass destructive actions in their new ways. In such a situation, a person kills public places instead of communicating with the supporters or members of terrorist currents such as ISIL with the aim of shedding people’s blood. Events like the French Nazi Crusade, or the a

Remember that allegation of $100M in child care fraud for terrorists? Here’s an update

On Monday, Minnesota lawmakers got an update on an explosive allegation in May that a state child care program might have been defrauded to the tune of $100 million to fund Islamic terrorists. Did that really happen? We still don’t know yet. That was the bottom line Monday morning as the Legislature’s lead investigator briefed state House members. Legislative Auditor Jim Nobles told lawmakers the investigation is taking longer than expected because of the complexities of the allegations and because some people are “very reluctant” to discuss the matter because the allegations involve “very sensitive matters” that aren’t public and might need their identities protected. The investigation continues. WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT? The whole idea that potentially $100 million in child care fraud proceeds could have funded terrorists was made public in a series of  televised reports by Fox 9  KMSP-TV in May. It caused a bit of a firestorm at the Capitol and led to Nobles’ office o

'Terrorism' database cites 'Islamophobic' sources in Muslim profiles

Image
A leading financial risk database that is already facing multiple lawsuits from Muslim organisations which it suggested had links to terrorism is still using as sources websites accused of promoting far-right and Islamophobic agendas, Middle East Eye can reveal. An MEE investigation has found several entries for prominent Muslim individuals and organisations in the World-Check risk intelligence database that include links to material posted on notorious websites such as Jihad Watch and Frontpage Magazine. Some of the sources, including controversial US-based think tanks such as the Gatestone Institute and the David Horowitz Freedom Center, were also  reported  by the Guardian newspaper last week to be part of a "hidden global network" supporting Tommy Robinson, a far-right anti-Muslim activist in the UK. Several are also cited in the militant far-right manifesto of Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people in a mass shooting at a youth camp and a car bombing in Norway in

The Deadliest Terrorist Groups In The World Today

Image
Of the 18,814 deaths  caused by terrorists  around the world last year, well over half were due to the actions of just four groups: Islamic State, the Taliban, Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram. According to Global Terrorism Index 2018, compiled by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), these four organisations were responsible for 10,632 deaths in 2017. Their actions contribute to the instability of what are some of the most dangerous countries in the world, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia and Syria. Over the past decade they have accounted for 44% of all terrorist deaths. Islamic State – 4,350 deaths in 2017 Also known in the Arab world as Daesh and by the acronyms ISIS and ISIL, Islamic State has been the deadliest terrorist group in the world for the past three years. It has been largely defeated in its home territory of Syria and Iraq but it remains capable of launching attacks in those countries and has also inspired individuals and affiliated groups to stag
