Libya welcomes peace agreement between Congo and Rwanda
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity welcomed the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on Thursday, 4 December 2025, on the sidelines of an official ceremony hosted by US President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C.
In its statement, the ministry explained that the agreement stresses the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the restoration of stability in the region, the safeguarding of Congo’s territorial integrity, and the strengthening of its sovereignty over its natural resources. It also outlines the launch of a long-term economic negotiation track between the two countries, contributing to consolidating dialogue-based diplomacy, reducing tensions, and enhancing security.
The statement praised the regional efforts that led to this development, particularly those preceding the announcement of the Doha Peace Agreement between the Congolese government and the M23 Movement, following several months of negotiations mediated by Qatar, which helped advance the peace process in eastern Congo.
The ministry reaffirmed Libya’s full support for all international and regional efforts aimed at consolidating security on the African continent, reiterating Libya’s unwavering commitment to supporting dialogue as the optimal path to overcoming conflicts and achieving stability.
