What is Groyper, the Far-Right Movement in Focus After Charlie Kirk's Death?
The killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has reignited scrutiny of a long-running feud within parts of the US far right, particularly between Kirk and the "Groyper" movement led by Nick Fuentes
Kirk was shot dead on September 10 during an event at Utah Valley University. While investigators have not confirmed a motive, speculation online has turned toward extremist factions that had previously clashed with Kirk, most notably Fuentes’s supporters, who have accused him of being insufficiently radical
What Is the Groyper Army?
The Groyper Army is a far-right, online movement built around Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist and "America First" advocate.
According to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the group includes "alt-right, white nationalist, and Christian nationalist activists" who espouse antisemitic, racist and homophobic views, often framed in the language of traditional values and family.
The group uses "Groyper" — a cartoon frog derived from the "Pepe" meme — as its mascot, a symbol widely adopted among extremist communities.
When Did the Term ‘Groyper’ Begin?
The term began circulating widely in 2019 during an internal clash in the conservative movement. That year, Fuentes’s supporters repeatedly disrupted Turning Point USA events, accusing Kirk of diluting Donald Trump's message.
