The backdrop of the operation is yesterday's killings where three cops were abducted and brutally killed by terrorists. The bullet-ridden bodies of two SPOs and a police constable were found in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. They were kidnapped from their homes.
The cordon and search operation has been launched in eight villages of Pulwama. The security forces launched the operation because they believe that the militants who abducted the cops may be hiding in such villages. In view of the abduction and killing of the cops, the search has been launched.
Terror attacks have been continuing in the valley. A similar incident occurred on August 29 when four policemen were killed when they were fired upon by militants in Shopian's Arhama. Earlier in August, three other policemen were also gunned down in three separate attacks by terrorists in Pulwama and Kulgam's villages.
On Friday, five LeT terrorists were killed in an encounter in North Kashmir's Bandiporqa district. This was hours after the bodies of three cops were found after they were abducted separately from their homes in Shopian. The cops were abducted even as the villagers pleaded to let them go, the police said.
