Obama Should Add Neo-Fascist, Islamic Extremist Threats to G7 Agenda - HRF

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama should discuss the growing influence of neo-fascism and Islamic extremism in Europe during next week’s G7 Summit, Human Rights First said in a press release on Wednesday.

“Human Rights First today urged President Obama to work with his Group of Seven [G7] counterparts to confront anti-Semitism and extremism [in Europe],” the release stated. “Neo-fascist parties are gaining influence on the strength of their xenophobic message.”

On June 7-8, 2015, Obama will attend the G7 Summit at Elmau Сastle in Germany, where leaders will address security threats to the Trans-Atlantic alliance.

Anti-Semitic violence in Europe, the release explained, has reached alarming levels and far-right political parties across the continent are using racist ideology to strengthen their base.

Human Rights First is also concerned with the situation in France, Belgium and other western European countries where Jews have been the targets of violent attacks, the release added.

In May, 2015, the Eurasian Observatory for Democracy and Elections (EODE) said the glorification of fascism and neo-Nazism have accompanied every stage of NATO expansion to the east.

In October, 2014, Russian officials urged the UN to address the growth of Nazi ideology and the spread of neo-fascism in Ukraine.

The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

In 2014, the G8 format became the G7 when Russia was suspended from the group by the other seven members over accusations of Russia's involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and Crimea's reunification with Russia. Moscow has repeatedly denied involvement in Ukraine.
