Racism: NGO’s hungry child ad sparks row
Feed A Child SA has apologised for its advert which features a black child being fed like a dog by a white woman.
The ad was aired on television and has sparked controversy on social media, with some commentators calling the ad racist.
Feed A Child SA's chief executive Elza Rautenbach has since apologised for the ad saying that it wasn't intended to cause any harm.
"We apologise for the advertisement. It was not intended to cause harm to anyone," Rautenbach said.
Rautenbach said that the NGO would also continue to work with Ogilvy and Mather Cape Town, the advertising agency which had created the ad.
"We are moving on, and continuing to do our day to day work, raise funds and feed our younger generation."
According to the NGO, one child in 10 suffers from severe malnutrition and dies within the first 12 months of life.
