Most Muslims concerned about extremism: Poll
A new poll shows that more than half of the population in many Muslim countries is concerned about the spread of extremism.
The survey was carried out by French pollsters, IFOP, on June 11-25 and its results were released on July 3.
Some 14,244 participants in 12 Muslim countries were asked both in person and by phone whether they were worried about the spread of extremism in their countries.
The results showed that 92, 80, 75, 72, 69 and 66 percent of the Lebanese, Tunisians, Egyptians, Nigerians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis are respectively concerned about the surge in extremism.
It was also found that in Indonesia and Senegal, which are geographically located on either ends of the Muslim world, only 39 and 46 percent of citizens respectively consider extremism concerning.
Furthermore, it was revealed that concern about extremism ranges from 65 to 50 percent among the Palestinians, Malaysians, Jordanians and Turks.
Over the recent years, several Muslim countries, from Iraq and Syria to Pakistan and Afghanistan have become the scene of atrocious crimes against humanity by terrorist groups.
The atrocities perpetrated by the ISIL terrorists in Iraq, Boko Haram Takfiris in Nigeria, and al-Qaeda-linked groups in Syria have all contributed to rising concerns about the spread of extremism.
