5 cops, 1 soldier injured in clash

FIVE policemen and a soldier were wounded after a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the outskirts of Davao City, a military official said Wednesday.

Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) information officer Captain Alberto Caber said the clash broke out around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Talomo in the boundaries of Baracatan and Catigan villages in Toril District, Davao City.

Caber did not identify the wounded troops except in saying the soldier belongs to the Army’s 84th Infantry Battalion while the policemen are from the Special Action Force.

Caber said the combined military and police forces were on combat operations when they clash with more or less 30 NPA rebels.

He said the NPA rebels withdrew following a 30-minute firefight. They were believed to have suffered casualties.

Eastmincom chief Lieutenant General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III has ordered the troops to be vigilant and to continue the combat operations against any threat to peace and security.
