FM: Fight against terrorism - priority for Turkey

The fight against terrorism is a priority for the country, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said during his visit to Abu Dhabi, Anadolu News Agency said on Friday.
Speaking at a conference on the fight against terrorism, the Foreign Minister said that Turkey has struggling with terrorism for many years.
"Turkey will fight terrorism in the country and globally as it has been doing", Davutoglu said.
As a result of military operations held against militants belonging to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party, Turkish security forces have neutralized 716 militants. 496 terrorists have been killed, 21 injured, 44 arrested and 155 surrendered themselves to the authorities during the first ten months of 2012.
During this period, Turkish security forces have held six large and 19 local operations against militants.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state has been on-going for more than 25 years and has claimed over 40,000 lives. The PKK group is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the European Union.
