As the State police headquarters sounds a high alert, Maoists have begun preparations to make their ‘Martyr Week’ a grand success from Saturday, coinciding with Kishenji’s death anniversary.

Other than nocturnal meetings in the rural segment in Topchanchi and Tundi blocks of Dhanbad district, the rebels are reported to have grand plans for impressive flag marches as well, to openly display their arsenal.

Sources revealed that at several villages coming under Topchanchi police station, Maoist cadre have been seen singing songs in honour of Kishenji, alias Koteshwar Rao, on Saturday.

In covert meetings held a couple of days ago, a decision has also been taken to perpetrate some overt act against the police in Bokaro, Giridih or Hazaribagh, according to sources.

Earlier, the Centre had asked all Naxal-affected States, including Jharkhand, to step up operations as the rebels were planning to intensify their offensive this week.

“There were intelligence inputs suggesting that the Maoists, who observe Martyr Week from December 2-8, had decided to enforce it this week from November 24 to coincide with Kishenji’s death anniversary,” said IG (Operations) SN Pradhan.
