Bomb blast injures four US-led Norwegian troops in Afghanistan

A powerful bomb explosion has injured at least four Norwegian soldiers serving with the US-led forces in northern Afghanistan, Press TV reports.
The western military alliance said in a statement that the incident took place in Chimtal District located in the western part of Balkh Province.
The soldiers were injured after a roadside bomb struck their patrol vehicle in the troubled region.
More than 369 US-led foreign troopers have been killed in militant attacks and explosions so far this year.
A total of 566 US-led forces died in Afghanistan in 2011. However, 2010 remains the deadliest year for foreign military casualties, with a death toll of 711.
The sharp rise in military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.
The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but years into the invasion, insecurity continues to rise across the country despite the presence of thousands of foreign troops in the war-weary nation.
