Chhattisgarh cops injured in Maoist attack on camp

Maoists opened fire on Saturday at a police base camp in an interior area in Chhattisgarh's violence-hit Sukma district injuring two policemen, officials said. The heavily-armed guerrillas, estimated to be in dozens, sprayed bullets on the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) camp which is located at Timmalwada village under Chintagufa police station, some 500 km south of state capital Raipur.
"The policemen were stunned by the attack. Two cops were hit by bullets," Lakhan Patle, sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP), told IANS over phone.

He stated that the stunned policemen, who belong to CAF's 9th battalion, retaliated strongly to the rebels' attack in which a few guerrillas were reportedly injured.

Officials said that the two injured policemen were airlifted from base camp to Jagdalpur, headquarters of the Bastar region, for urgent medical attention. The condition of the injured was stated to be critical.
