Assam: High alert after blasts ahead of PM's visit

Guwahati: Assam has been put on high alert and extra security has been deployed ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's one-day visit. Two blasts rocked the state on Thursday evening just hours ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.
The Prime Minister will be in Guwahati to inaugurate the platinum jubilee celebration of the Assam Assembly. The Home Ministry has asked the state to keep a strict vigil as intelligence hints at low intensity blasts by insurgents.
The anti-talks faction of the ULFA has called a 12-hour bandh protesting against the Prime Minister's visit.

Earlier on Thursday, two separate blasts rocked Assam. While the first blast occurred at a power station in Jorhat in Upper Assam, the second blast was carried out at Sibsagar in Upper Assam.
