Bomb blast in Kathmandu three died, seven injured

Kathmandu, Nepal—
A powerfull bomb went off in front of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) at Babarmahal, just ahead of the Singhdurbar on Monday. Three people were killed - two of them on the spot and one at Bir Hospital while receiving treatment. In the daylight explosion other seven were injured, one of them is reported critical.

According to the Bir Hospital, the injured persons, who were admited at the hospital for treatment are Som Bahadur Tamang, 35, of Bara district, Lal Bahadur Tamang, 62, of Dhading district, Bishnu Prasad Pulara, 40, of Dhading district, Raghu Nath Khadka, 45, of Tathali of Bhaktapur district, Man Bahadur Kunwar, 40, and Bhim Bahadur Kunwar, 21, of Achham district and Basu Shrestha, 20, of Lubhu of Lalitpur distrct. The health condition of Som Bahadur Tamang is critical.

The decease, who had lost thier lives in the spot were identified as Krishna Bahadur Tamang, 34 and Bishnu Balami of Baireni VDC, Dhading. Balami is minor. The blast was occurred at 1:11 pm. The detals of the third deceased is yet to be ascertained.

The bomb blast is the first major incedent of this kind in the capital after a blast in 2009, which was carried out at the Assumption Church at Dhobighat, Lalitpur, by a little-known insurgent group, Nepal Defense Army.

Though it has yet to be verified independently, a person identifying himself as the coordinator of underground United Ethnic Liberation Front Nepal (UELFN) claimed responsibility through a telephone.

It is said that the explosoive was an improvised explosive device (IED) operated with the help of a remote device. the police has said that GI plumbing sockets were also used to magnify the effect of the blast.

Shortly after the incident, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar had reached on the incident site and met the injured persons at Bir Hospital. Commenting to the media persons about the accident Gachhadar said the explosion is challenge to the existing security arrangement of the government.

The police has arrested a person from Ratnapark area in connection with the incident. However, the policer has denied to elaborate about the person.

Probe panel formed

Likewise; the government has formed a four-member probe committee headed by DIG Upendra Kanta Aryal, chief of Central Investigation Bureau at Nepal Police Headquarters. Three other members of the probe committee are SSP duos Devendra Subedi and Kedar Man Singh Bhandari and SP Subodh Ghimire.

Oppositions condemn

The main opposition parties- Nepali Congress and CPN-UML- have condemned the incident and critisized the government for poor security situation in Kathmandu valley. Both the parties have demanded immediate investigation over the accident and proper compensation to the family of the decease persons and injured persons.
