Two NATO soldiers were killed Thursday when two individuals, including a man believed to be Afghan army soldier, opened fire in southern Afghanistan, the NATO- led forces said.

"Two individuals, one believed to be an Afghan National Army service member and the other in civilian clothing, turned their weapons indiscriminately against International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan National Security Force service members in southern Afghanistan today, killing two ISAF service members,"the NATO-led ISAF forces said in a press release.

However, the brief statement did not provide details and did not disclose the nationalities of the victims, only saying "it is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

Troops mainly from the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia have been stationed in the southern region within the framework of ISAF to curb Taliban-linked insurgency there.
