Ummah urged to develop tolerance, unity

President National Youth Assembly Hanan Ali Abbasi urged the Muslim Ummah to develop tolerance and unity among themselves as the extremism and intolerance has devastated the image and repute of the Islamic world.

He stated this while addressing a two-day World Conference of Youth hosted by the government of Iran.

He told ‘The News’ that this was an historical experience for him to present the image of Pakistan at international level. He said that he presented his research paper and delivered his thoughts about world peace and unity among Muslim Ummah. “By the grace of God, I feel accomplished in my mission as this was a matter of honour for me to address this event - World Assembly of Islamic Awakening - which is playing superb role to converge Muslims under a platform to study the dire problems today faced by us.” He met with supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and also heard the president of Iran, Ahmadinejad. More than 1,200 participants from all over the world attended the conference and some of them presented their thoughts.

He also suggested some of the diagnostic solutions for the Ummah relating to the problems like formation of worldwide Islamic channel for portraying the better image of Muslim along with well-developed Muslim Ummah’s projection through social networking sites, Creation of General Assembly of Muslim Youth, announcement of joint strategy against terrorism and relation with the USA, Creation of international Muslim youth think-tank, and establishment of ‘Muslim World Bank’.

He demanded of the Islamic Ummah to make efforts to maintain unity, and inculcate the culture of tolerance. Hanan underscored the need for promoting education in Muslim countries adding that the basis of development of every society is education, and attaining a high quality education is inevitable for economic, political, social and cultural development.

He stressed the Muslims to focus on scientific and technical education, which is essential for development and progress in the modern times. He highlighted the crucial role of Ummah in elaborating practical methods to combat intolerance. Additionally, the creation of task forces to promote tolerance, understanding and to build a dialogue between different religions was recognized as an important new approach. He said that terrorism is not a tenet of the Muslim world.
