Delhi blast: Third email threatens Ahmedabad, say reports

Source: TOI

NEW DELHI: Even as investigators struggled to find a breakthrough in the Delhi high court blast case, another terror email, warning of an impending attack, has reportedly surfaced.

The third email has been sent from the ID kill.india@yahoo.com to Delhi Police. The email sender identified himself as Ali Saed El-Hoorie.

The name of Ahmedabad figures in the email which was sent under a numerical code. Gujarat, specifically Ahmedabad has now been put on a high alert.

According to sources, the third email, which was received by media organizations, was sent from a Yahoo account. Sources added that the government of India has asked Yahoo for more details.

On Wednesday after the blast outside Delhi HC, an email was sent by Harkat-ul-Jihadi (HuJI) putting onus of the blast on the terror outfit. Yesterday another email - purportedly written by one "Chotoo" - stated that the blast was actually carried out by Indian Mujahideen.

The second mail sent from "chotoominani5@gmail.com" was received at 12:37pm claiming that Harkat-ul-Jihadi-al-Islami had no role to play in the blasts and it was done by Indian Mujahideen. The mail also reasoned that they had chosen Wednesday as the day of the blast as it was a busy day for the HC. Delhi HC hears PILs on Wednesdays.

The sender also warned of another blast outside a shopping mall on Tuesday - forcing security agencies to step up vigilance at all such places not only in Delhi but also in other cities.

"Even if the text of email and the manner it was sent do not match the typical Indian Mujahideen style, investigators are not taking it lightly. It may be a prank or red herring. But, we are trying to verify its authenticity as part of our probe to look into different angles," said an official.

Besides writing the text in Hindi using Roman script, the mail, sent by Chotoo, spelt Mujahideen as Muzahiddin. All the earlier emails sent by IM had carried text in 'good' English.

The home ministry has asked states to beef up security at high courts in the wake of the blast.

A high intensity briefcase bomb ripped through the crowded reception area in the high court on Wednesday. 13 people died and over 70 people were injured in the blast that took place between Gate No.4 and 5 when around 200 visitors, mostly litigants, were waiting in queue to get passes to enter the premises.
