A car bomb has exploded in the southern Afghanistan city of Kandahar, killing three and wounding at least a dozen people.

Kandahar officials say Monday's blast happened outside a bank where police officers had gone to collect their salaries.

Authorities say at least one police officer died in the blast.

Southern Afghanistan, a traditional Taliban stronghold, has seen some of the worst fighting this year between militants and international troops, including Afghan forces.

Meanwhile, NATO said one of its servicemembers was killed Monday in a bomb blast in southern Afghanistan. The alliance did not release any other details.
