Parvathi Ammal, the mother of the killed Tamil Tiger leader, Velupillai Prabakaran, has said she wants to move to Canada to live with her daughter.
Parvathi, who has recently moved back to Sri Lanka after her Malaysian visa expired, said she desperately wants to live in Canada with her daughter Vinothini Rajendram.

Canada is home to a large Sri Lankan population and the country agreed to accept refugees after the recent period of fighting involving the Tamil Tigers, or LTTE. The militant organisation fights for the creation of an independent Tamil state.

Sri Lankan people living in Canada are often able to bring their relatives to the country to live with them. However, so far Canada has been non-committal about whether it will grant Parvathi a Canadian visa. Her son was a chief in the Tamils Tigers and was wanted for terrorism, murder and organised crime. He was shot during fighting in May last year.

Parvathi now hopes she can settle in Canada following the death of her husband in January. Parvathi's official guardian in Sri Lanka, former MP M K Sivajilingam, confirmed, "efforts are on to get her a Canadian visa."
