UK envoy survives Yemen attack

April 26, 2010 — The British ambassador to Yemen has survived a suicide attack on his convoy.

The bomber targeted Tim Torlott as he was travelling to his office in the capital Sanaa.

Security officials said the bomber was a 22-year-old man disguised in a school uniform, while Yemen's interior ministry said blamed al-Qaeda.

Monday's bombing is the first suicide attack in Yemen since March 2009 when a South Korean delegation was targeted - no-one was killed in that blast.

Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports.
