Terrorists are now targeting journalists: Fauzia Wahab

KARACHI: Central Information Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Fauzia Wahab has said that it is priority of government to end terrorism and terrorists from the country, who are now targeting journalists’ community.
This she said while addressing a condolence meeting organized by the Karachi Union of Journalists at t5he Karachi Press Club on Thursday, to remember the victims of Peshawar Press Club bomb blast.
Agreeing to the demands made by the journalists, she said that a fund should immediately be established for the victimized journalists and their families, besides providing other facilities like life insurance and security to them.
Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that there is a need to join hands to fight terrorism to make the country a peaceful place, where the people can live freely. He praised the performance of journalists’ community and said that they have always laid sacrifices. He condemned the attack at the Peshawar Press Club and said that he would try to meet the demands made by the journalists.
Earlier, Imtiaz Faran said that the media persons are been targeted because they are supporting the government in the war against Taliban and Al-Qaeda. He regretted that no security measures have been made by the government to protect the journalists.
He presented a resolution demanding of the government to provide life insurance to journalists, deploying additional security outside the press clubs and media organizations and to set up a fund for the victimized journalists. The resolution was unanimously passed. . Shahid Ghazali, A H Khanzada and Amin Yousuf also addressed on the occasion.
