A female suicide bomber has blown herself up next to a police car in the Russian republic of Chechnya, injuring six people.

Russian news agencies are reporting that a woman ran up to a police car with two officers inside in the Chechen capital of Grozny.

She reached for the car's door and there was an explosion, a local police source told the Interfax news agency.

The blast was powerful enough to shatter windows in a nearby five-storey building.

Although Russia ended a decade-long anti-terrorism operation in Chechnya in April, the strife-torn republic has experienced ongoing attacks that authorities have attributed to militants.
