KOCHI: Probe into the pipe-bomb blast at Ernakulam Collectorate took a new turn on Tuesday with the Special Investigation Team collecting details of people with alleged SIMI and NDF links in the State. The top officials of the special team met in Aluva on Tuesday morning to assess the progress of the investigation.A decision was taken at the toplevel to collect details of people who were in touch with Shibili and Shaduli, who were earlier arrested for SIMI links. The police had taken some people with alleged SIMI connections into custody from Aluva and Eerattupettah on Monday. Though they were released later, it has been decided to keep an eye on them.Though the police are dismissing SIMI links in the incident, a top official revealed that the investigation is currently focusing on this aspect.“We have strong leads in the investigation though we cannot reveal them now. We do not completely rule out the possibility of terrorist links at this stage.

The probe is currently focusing more on that,” he said.The police have been interrogating a number of people across the State in connection with the blast.So far they have collected evidence from more than 300 people, said an official. “The SIT has been looking into certain possibilities, including the role of people with anti-national links. We have zeroed in on some possibilities and based on that interrogation is being done. As many as 20 teams have been deployed to cover the entire State as well as outside if necessary. The blast has national significance and therefore we are not leaving any stone unturned,” said a top official with the SIT.Meanwhile, there are speculations that in the wake of the terrorist links, the probe into the blast at the Collectorate may be handed over to the Special Investigation Team which probed the SIMI links in the State. Currently the probe is being carried out by both teams together.
