Defeating terrorism: Great Opportunity for Peace in Sri Lanka; Hillary Clinton

(NIDAHASA News) Defeating terrorism presents great opportunity for peace, said U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (13). The President`s office says that Clinton acknowledged that this presented a great opportunity to restore peace, leading to reconstruction and rehabilitation in the country.

The President`s media unit said that the telephone discussion which was warm and cordial was originated by the US Secretary of State. She stated that terrorists should not be permitted to destroy the lives of people in such manner, expressing her condolences for those killed in the recent attack in Matara.


US looked forward to working with Sri Lanka once the current conflict ends, she added. Mrs. Clinton appreciated the assurances given by Secretary Defense that civilians would not be subjected to any attacks by the military.
