 | Feb 05,2016

At least 43 Naxals and their supporters today surrendered in Chhattisgarh's worst insurgency-hit Sukma district citing disappointment with the ideology of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), police said.

"The 43 rebels and their supporters, including five women, turned themselves in before senior police and CRPF officials at Chintagufa police station premises," Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told PTI.

Criminal offences were registered against some of them, the ASP added.

In their statement, all the ultras expressed disappointment with the ideology of the movement and violence.

Besides, they were also impressed with the provisions of surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government which compelled them to join the mainstream, Singh said.

An encouragement amount of Rs 10,000 was given to each of the surrendered and they will be provided facilities as per the surrender policy, the official said.
