Harkatul Mujahideen module busted in Sopore: Police

Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a network of militants by arresting a Harkatul Mujahideen militant with his four associates.

Police said acting upon a tip off police and 52 RR laid a search operation near Sangrama forest check post and succeeded in arresting an active militant Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi belonging to Harkatul Mujahideen outfit.

Addressing a press conference Deputy Inspector General (DIG) north Kashmir Gareeb Dass said four other associates of the active militant have been arrested and arms and ammunition have been recovered from them which include some pistols and Chinese hand grenades.

He said these militants were planning to  attack on Srinagar-Baramulla highway on Republic day function and by busting their module a major tragedy has been averted.
