Afghanistan: Bomb Kills 9

A roadside bomb killed at least nine civilians on a public bus on Monday. The attack, which also wounded at least 20 people, occurred in the Sayad Abad district of Wardak Province, an area seen as a strategic staging ground for insurgent attacks on Kabul, said Fazal Karim Muslim, the district governor. Last week, 44 civilians were killed in an insurgent attack on a government compound in Farah Province. On Saturday, a suicide bomber struck a convoy of Afghan and coalition officials, killing five Americans in Zabul Province. And in Kunar Province, at least 10 children were killed Saturday in an airstrike called in by American and Afghan troops who were pursuing a Taliban commander.
