15 killed in Tirah market suicide blast

KOHAT: Atleast fifteen people have been killed while scores of others injured when a suicide bomb ripped through a market in Tirah valley on Wednesday morning. According to Media Reports, explosion took place at the busy bus terminal in main Tirah bazaar. The blast was suicidal and the death toll is likely to rise.
Local police said the bomber approached the door of a bus carrying passengers and detonated his explosives.
The DPO Kohat Dilawar Bangish said the blast in Teerah Bazar area of Kohat was suicide and police have recovered body parts of the bomber from the site of incident.
Earlier it appeared the bomb was planted in a vehicle parked at the main bus stand, but Banghash said that "now we have found the head and legs of the suicide bomber".
Police and security forces have cordoned off the area following the bomb blast.
The injured were shifted to the Liaquat Memorial Hospital where the sources said some of the injured were in critical condition and more casualties, therefore, were feared.
It is pertinent to mention here that Teerah Bazar is a busy market and it is frequently visited by the residence of adjoining tribal areas.
Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the bomb blast in Kohat and termed it as the most heinous crime against innocent civilians on the sacred day of first Muhurram.
They said that these terrorists have no respect for the peaceful religion of Islam nor any sense of humanity.
The prime minister said while the nation is passing through difficult times these coward criminals are mercilessly killing innocent Muslims.
President in his message said such cowardly acts could not deter the determination of the nation to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the fabric of the society. The perpetrators and their accomplices won’t go unpunished, he added.
Federal Minister for Defence, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Chairman Senate Farooq H Naik, Deputy Chairman Jan Muhammad Jamali, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, Syed Munawar Hassan, MQM chief Al;taf Hussain and others have strongly condemned the suicide blast in Kohat in which precious human lives have been lost.
Denouncing the attack, the ministers said it was highly barbaric to shed the blood of innocent people. They said the terrorists wanted to create instability and spread terror but they would not be allowed to succeed in their evil designs.
Reiterating the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism, the ministers said that the perpetrators of this cowardly act would soon be taken to task.
The ministers expressed profound grief and shock over the loss of innocent lives in the bomb blast. They sympathized with the bereaved families and prayed to Almighty Allah to shower his blessings on the departed souls and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss with patience and equanimity.
