Islamic extremism, terrorism main threats to Europe: Austrian officials

This China view report shows the so called Islamophobia but isnt there some truth in the Austrians' worries. Well Atleast I felt so.

    VIENNA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Two Austrian government officials said on Friday that Islamic extremism and terrorism are the main threats to the security of European countries.

    Austrian Interior Minister Maria Fekter and Director of the Federal Agency for State Protection and Counter Terrorism Peter Gridling made the comments at a press conference for the release of a report titled "Protection of the Constitution Report 2009."

    The report said the increasing threats from Islamic extremism are closely related to the deterioration of the crises in such countries as Afghanistan and Pakistan, while the existence of so-called "homegrown" networks are considered a further threat.

    It also said left-wing extremism related crimes showed a decrease in 2008, while right-wing extremism related crimes increased. .

    Gridling said that although Austria is currently unlikely to be directly attacked by terrorists, Austrians are facing threats of terrorism, referring to the kidnapping of Austrian tourists in Tunisia in 2008.
