Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb rejects ISIL 'caliphate'

In a statement posted online, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb rejected the self-declared "caliphate" of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), alarabiya.net reported Tuesday (July 15th).
In the statement, the group announced its continued allegiance to al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and scolded ISIL for its unilateral declaration.
A growing number of al-Qaeda figures have denounced ISIL's so-called caliphate, with radical cleric Abu Qatada and al-Qaeda ideologue Abu Mohammed al-Maqdisi among the most recent.
