The CIA Dagestan, Chechnya, Tsarnaev Nexus
The reality in Dagestan / Chechnya is completely the opposite of what CIA-connected mouthpieces like Brian Glyn Williams and Ruslan Tsarni (Tsarnaev) tell the US public. Of course Brian Glyn Williams is billed as a "professor," and not as a CIA-contracted field operativeor as a propagandist/analyst for the CIA-connected "Jamestown Foundation."

The Atlantic Monthly identifies Brian Glyn Williams as, "professor of Islamic history at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where the younger suspect [Dzhokhar Tsarnaev] was enrolled." That's where the story stops for Mr. Williams in that article. But, that is where I intend to begin here.
Brian Glyn Williams presents himself as an historian and an "expert" in "Islamic studies." He has traveled to Afghanistan and around Central Asia on behalf of the Central Intelligence Agency to study the phenomenon of Islamic suicide bombers. He has a website .
Williams claimed in theHuffington Post , without once mentioning his CIA connections, to have,
"demolished the misguided notion that the outgunned, Sovietized, Sufi-mystic Chechen rebels defending their mountain homeland from the mighty Russian Federation had somehow developed a foreign policy which bizarrely led them to become the evil henchmen of the Saudi Arabian Wahhabi fundamentalist terrorist Osama Bin Laden and his Pashtun tribal Taliban allies in Afghanistan."
Williams turns quite the phrase. When trying to distinguish between strands of radical Islamic extremist terrorists, these distinctions can appear quite significant on the surface. Until you see the suicide bombing scenes, the real terrorism, the frothing pledges and commitments of their charismaticemirs. Not even Williams, our spinner of tales, can let his blanket statement above stand for too long.
The Atlantic:
"There is a minority among the rebels that subscribe to the global view of jihad. But overall Chechens are very pro-American and pro-Western."
Keep selling it. Isn't Al Qaeda itself a "minority?" If we're going to blur the meanings and distinctions, then Williams' prior nitpicking over his favorite freedom fighters seems trivial.
What Williams is doing here is nothing but damage control. The Chechen Jihadists are ruthless terrorists, exactly as other Islamic brigades are in Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen and elsewhere. But, in a number of these locales the US and its spin doctors don't call them "terrorists." They are called all manner of labels, from "Mujahadeen" to "tribesmen" to "rebels" to "freedom fighters" to "warriors" or even "democracy activists," depending on the source. They are not democracy activists.
We have quite a can of snakes opened up here. The New York Times just this week traveled to Dagestan and Chechnya to talk to officials there on the ground. The mayor of Khasavyurt, where 36 policemen have been hunted down and killed since 2009, told the Times:
"Do you know how many Tsarnaevs we have?""The guerrillas recruit athletes, and five of his star pupils have risen to become insurgent commanders, or "emirs."
"In Dagestan" about 350 people were killed in fighting here in 2012""
After making the muddled case that Chechens are the good guys, Brian Glyn Williams then absurdly directs HuffPost readers over to the Chechen terrorist website, " Kavkaz Center ," the front organization of Doku Umarov . Doku Umarov calls himself "Russia's bin Laden."
Williams recommends a Chechen terrorist website, Kavkaz Centeron Huffington Post, and he still gets good billing and exposure in the media. How could that be? Are we not in a "war" against terrorism? A clue to this funny state of affairs comes from Russian state media, the Voice of Russia , June 15th of 2012 :
"Kavkaz Center, a Chechen extremist website has been funded by Finland's Foreign Ministry and the US State Department, Finnish prosecutors revealed during a probe into the activities of the site's owner Mikael Storsjo. Recently, a court in Helsinki handed down a four-month suspended sentence to Storsjo for assisting Chechen terrorists to enter Finland illegally. "
Dr. Brian Glyn Williams (CIA/Jamestown Foundation) recommends Kavkaz for a "view into their world."
A quick click over to Kavkaz Center (5/20/13) produces this lovely story:
Two blasts in Dagestan killed and injured more than 50 puppets[21:56] Russian invaders reported that 2 blasts went off within an interval of 15 minutes in Shamilkala, the capital the Caucasus Emirate's Province of Dagestan"
One must infer that the above is the good kind of terrorism in Mr. Brian Glyn Williams' view. While Williams vehemently denies any connection between the Chechens and the Saudi Wahabbis, the Chechen commanders themselves may see it differently:
"Last year, a charismatic rebel commander calling himself Said Buryatsky bragged on the rebel website Kavkaz Centerhe was training new suicide bombers.
An ethnic Russian convert to Islam, Buryastky, born Alexander Tikhomirov, studied for several years in Saudi Arabia.
"A new leader, Dokka Umarov , emerged declaring the new goal was to separate all six Muslim majority provinces in the Russian Caucasus from the Russian Federation,and create a new Islamic state ruled by Sharia law.
Admired for his Saudi religious education Buryatsky quickly became Umarov's chief ideologist. He also became a valued military strategist."

Brian Glyn Williams then tells HuffPost readers, "It seems that the older Tamerlan then converted his brother Dzhokar to the fanatical cause""
Ah. But, here is where we must insist on a full disclosure from Mr. Brian Glyn Williams. You see it is Williams' own personal relationship with Dzhokar Tsarnaev, over several years and via numerous email communications concerning the younger Tsarnaev's Chechen heritage, that alerted me to this topic in the first place.
"I hope I didn't contribute to it. That kid and his brother identified with the Chechen struggle."

Williams is identified as "Dr. Brian Glyn Williams" and no mention of his CIA or Jamestown Foundation connections appears in the article. What does appear however demands some scrutiny. Williams hooked up with Dzhokar Tsarnaev when the latter was still in high school and 17 years old, according to South Coast Today reporter Steve Urbon:
"Williams, whose classes on the War on Terror are routinely packed, obliged by exchanging emails with the then-17-year-old student [Dzhokar]]."As Williams put it, an ancient civilization was being wiped away.
"Williams shot me an email. I phoned him and at one point I heard a rare twinge of worry in his voice. "I hope I didn't contribute to it."
... "[Dzhokhar] was learning his Chechen identity, identifying with the diaspora and identifying with his homeland."
" "He wanted to learn more about Chechnya,who the fighters were, who the commanders were. I sort of gave him background."

Well, the commanders were, and are, Doku Umarov, Said Buryatsky and a distinguished gentleman named Shamil Basayev. Basayev arranged for 850 hostages to be taken at a theater in Moscow in 2002, demanding Russia give up the province of Chechnya and pull out. During the siege 130 civilians died and all 40 of Basayev's armed terrorists.
Some readers may not give much credence to this direct CIA connection to one of the alleged Boston Marathon bombers. But this is not the only known CIA link to the Tsarnaevs. Not by a long shot. Their own uncle, Ruslan Tsarni (Tsarnaev) has an interesting bio, which would take another entire article to delve into. Luckily that article isalready written . That's strike two.
And then there's that Russian / Georgian State Security report of older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev receiving "training" at theJamestown Foundation on his trip to Russia in 2012.
That's three.
The possibility that these intelligence connections can be attributed to pure coincidence, to chance, is quickly becoming an absurd fantasy.

The ACPC has defended the political asylum in the U.S. of former Chechen Foreign Minister Ilyas Akhmadov, accused of past terrorist links. The ACPC and Freedom House work with theJamestown Foundation,founded in 1984 by CIA director William Casey,along with high-ranking intelligence defectors from the Soviet Union, Romania, Poland, and Czechoslovakia." --Wayne Madsen(formerly of NSA),Washington's "Civil Society" and CIA Financing of Chechen and Other Caucasus Regional Terrorists
As for "Doctor" Brian Glyn Williams, he remains prolific and verbose as ever.
"In a book to be published next year, "Inferno in the Caucus: The Chechen insurgency and the Mirage of Al Qaeda," [Williams] says that no matter what the Chechens are, "they are not Al Qaeda. Repeat: They are not Al Qaeda." --South Coast Today
