LeT trains women terrorists to sneak into J&K

In what has rung serious alarm bells for the security establishment, the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) is raising a group of 21 highly-trained girls — the first by the banned terrorist organisation. Not just that, the Army has confirmed intelligence about the plans of these fairer sex terrorists to sneak into Jammu & Kashmir through the LoC from Uri or Nepal.

“These girls are trained in basic infantry tactics and guerilla warfare besides handling sophisticated weapons and explosives and the LeT trained them after floating a new outfit named ‘Dukhtran-e-Tauba’,” sources said here on Tuesday. The girls were trained for about six months at a camp in Divalia, Muzzafarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Officials also admitted that countering this threat is difficult as women generally are not suspects and security forces on ground are now getting re-oriented to prevent any attempt by the ISI to exploit this weak spot.

Realising that infiltrating into Jammu & Kashmir through the more traditional routes in Kupwara and Sopore will be tough due to snow blocking ingress routes and pro-active patrolling by the security forces, the group may try to come in through Uri or Nepal.

Jammu & Kashmir militants, besides Punjab terrorists, have used the Nepal route in the past in the early 1990s and intelligence agencies have alerted all the States bordering Nepal to step up vigilance to foil any attempts by this group of girls, the sources said, adding these girls were placed under the command of senior LeT commander Sayed Sadakat Hussain for the infiltration attempt.

Apart from this new threat, the security forces are now hunting for Usman Bhai alias Chota Rehman, the new divisional commander of LeT. Sources said he infiltrated into Jammu & Kashmir about three months back and was trying to recruit a new crop of militants from Pulwama and neighbouring districts.

LeT generally comprises militants from mainland Pakistan and this is for the first time that this organisation is trying to recruit local Kashmiris to carry out terrorist strikes, sources said. The recruitment and training of girls for terror strikes is also a first the outfit. “Security forces have tightened anti-infiltration cordon in Jammu & Kashmir following the reports,” officials added.

The ISI has instructed the LeT to carry out attacks on the security forces deployed all along the 750-km long LoC and provoke them to retaliate leading to a possible conflagration. These attacks can come in the form of sniper attack on patrolling security men or stand-off attacks inviting answering fire.

These 415-plus LeT militants, based in Aksha camp in PoK, are trained by the Pakistan army regulars in disciplined firing and withstand retaliation like professional infantry soldiers. Sources said this added a new dimension to terrorism in Kashmir as security forces are now up against more determined and better trained militants.
