Washington: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi , met with US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar on Tuesday, who has been accused of Hinduphobia and consistently making anti-India statements.
The Congress MP held meeting with US lawmakers at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC on Tuesday where he also met Congresswoman Omar.
Omar is the first American from Somali origin in the United States Congress and the first woman of color to represent Minnesota. She is also one of the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress.
'Hinduphobic, Alleged ISIS Sympathiser'
Omar has faced criticism for allegedly fostering anti-India sentiments and promoting a pro-Islamist stance in the US.
Ilhan Omar has previously visited Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (PoK) and met with then-Pakistani PM Imran Khan. Her visit to PoK was sponsored by the Pakistani government, as per reports.
Ilhan Omar has also been alleged as an ISIS sympathiser as well.
Skipped PM's Address to US Congress
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar also chose to skip Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's address to the US Congress , while he was on a state visit to United States. Her decision to boycott Modi's speech stems from her concerns about the Indian government's treatment of religious minorities and its alleged backing of Hindu nationalist groups.
