Bouncer racially abused by drunken woman says her jail sentence is ‘valuable lesson’

A bouncer who was racially abused by a drunken woman has welcomed her jail sentence, saying it would provide a “valuable lesson” to racists.

Doorman Tristan Price, 26, spoke after 25-year-old Sharna Walker was handed a 14-week prison term after admitting racially aggravated common assault.

She flew into a rage and screamed and spat at him when he booted her out Wetherspoon’s Figure of Eight bar on Birmingham’s Broad Street on 22 May.

Her tirade was caught on camera as she pushed the security guard and called him a “black c***” and a “f*****g n*****” in front of shocked onlookers.

Mr Price said it was the first time he had been abused when working as a bouncer and was hurt by her words.

He told the Mirror: 'People have tried to fight me and punch me and I've even had knives pulled out on me but those incidents have left my head quickly. What she said hasn't.

'But I have to move on as I can't let those hurtful words drag me down and be like a ball and chain.'

Mr Price said the jail term showed you wouldn’t get “get away with being a racist anymore” and provided a “valuable lesson”.

Walker was jailed on Monday after she pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault.

She also admitted criminal damage after kicking open an exit door and smashing the glass panel after being asked to leave the bar.

She had already been banned from one of Birmingham’s busiest nightlife districts, following her arrest two days after ranting at Mr Price.

At a sentencing hearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, “disgraceful” Walker, of Worcester, was given an immediate term of imprisonment.

She was also ordered to pay Mr Price £500 compensation and given a two-year ban from the pub unless Wetherspoons decided to give her early permission to return to the premises.

After sentencing, Chief Inspector James Spencer, of West Midlands Police, said: “This was a disgraceful incident and people were understandably disgusted at her actions.”

“In short, racist abuse and violence will never be accepted on Westside, and we will always work closely with police to track down any offenders.”
