Lashkar off-shoot The Resistance Front (TRF) commander Afaq Sikander killed in one of the Kulgam encounters

SRINAGAR: Four terrorists were killed on Wednesday evening after encounters broke out in Pombai and Gopalpora villages of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district.

According to IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar the operations continue to be underway and police and security forces are on the job.

According to an update shared by the Kashmir Zone Police Twitter handle, the commander of proscribed terror outfit TRF Afaq Sikander has been killed in the Gopalpora encounter. The Resistance Front or TRF incidentally is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror group.

Reports quoting police officials in south Kashmir indicated that contact had been established with the hiding terrorists and two to three terrorists were believed to be trapped.

In the meantime, the Pulwama police and SFs arrested two LeT terrorist-associates named Amir Bashir and Mukhtar Bhat during a joint naka checking exercise. "IEDs were recovered from their possession. Investigation in progress," read a tweeted update from the IGP Kashmir.

Earlier today, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt by Pakistan army-backed terrorists in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. In a separate incident, two CRPF personnel as well as some civilians were injured in a grenade attack in the Palhalan area of Baramulla district.
