Scottish Separatists and Boris Johnson’s Victory

Nicholas Sturgeon’s separatists lack the absolute majority of the Scottish Parliament needed to legitimize calls for a new referendum on independence from the British crown. But the game remains open.

In the British administrative elections, the separatists won their fourth consecutive victory in Parliament in Edinburgh 64 times.

Also enough to secure the leadership of the next local government, but not to touch 65, which would have given him 50% plus of the assembly.

First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon believes there is “no justification” that could prevent a new referendum on Scotland’s independence from the United Kingdom.

Commenting on the election results, Sturgeon said that the Scottish Parliament “undoubtedly has a majority in favor of independence”, pointing to a possible settlement with the Scottish Greens. This matter will be the subject of discussion in the coming months.

Nationally, however, the vote was once again a success for Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a breakthrough for Labor. The new leader of the left Keir Starmer, in his first real trial, brings a result worse than the one collected 5 years earlier by radical socialist Jeremy Corbyn.

Compounding the defeat is the confirmation of the Social Democrats in Wales, where outgoing Prime Minister Mark Drakeford’s line-up wins 30 out of 60 seats, and first round victories in the urban areas of Liverpool and Manchester. Surprisingly, however, the charismatic Labor mayor Sadiq Khan was forced to move to the second round.

In all, the Conservatives collected more than 250 seats in English local councils, snatching many administrations from Labor after taking power for the first time in half a century in the only vacant national constituency of the House of Commons in Hartlepool.

While Starmer’s Labor loses 300 and pro-European liberal Democrats retreat further, becoming an entirely frontier force in the British political scene.
