Afghanistan: High time India engages with Taliban without undermining the elected govt
US President Joe Biden's administration has rolled out a new framework
to restart the stalled Afghan peace process. On the one hand, the Biden
administration is pushing for an interim 'peace govt' in Kabul that
would include the Taliban, while on the other, it has included India
among 6 nations that should develop a unified approach to peace in
Afghanistan. Given the circumstances, should India shed its reluctance
to engage with the Taliban? And, in the event of US pullout from
Afghanistan, how can India protect its strategic interests? The Times of
India spoke to former diplomat Meera Shankar on the issue.
