Woman charged with terrorist offence over prison stabbing in Victoria
A 27-year-old woman has been charged with engaging in an act of terrorism after she allegedly stabbed a fellow inmate at a Victorian prison.
Momena Shoma attended Melbourne Magistrates' Court today over the alleged stabbing at Ravenhall prison on October 30.
Another woman, also 27, suffered a hand injury in the incident, police said in a statement.
The accused was charged by counter-terrorism police yesterday and appeared before court via video-link from the the women's maximum security prison.
The 27-year-old will next appear before court on March 25.
"Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police would like to reassure the community that the threat has been contained and there is no on-going risk to the broader community posed by this individual," a statement from Victoria Police read.
