Tunisia dismantles 33 "terrorist" cells: minister - Xinhua

TUNIS, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least 33 suspected terrorist cells have been dismantled by Tunisian security services since the start of 2020, the Tunisian Minister of Interior Taoufik Charfeddine said on Monday.

"As part of the fight against terrorism, since the beginning of the year, the security units, with the support of the military institution, have succeeded in detecting and destroying 33 extremist cells active across the country," Charfeddine said at a plenary session of the parliament.

"Tunisian authorities were able to arrest 1,020 individuals suspected of belonging to terrorist organizations," Charfeddine added.

"These successes are due to all the security measures taken in the field of the fight against terrorism and based on high levels of vigilance and quality preventive operations to eliminate terrorists," Charfeddine added.
