Heavy ISIS attacks prompt new Russian strikes over central Syria

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) continued their heavy attacks against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) this week, targeting a number of sites between the Hama, Al-Raqqa and Homs governorates.

According to a field source in the Hama Governorate, the Islamic State sleeper cells have been targeting several sites between the Ithriya and Al-Sa’an areas, prompting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to move reinforcements to this front to quell the terrorist activity.

These Islamic State raids have also resulted in several casualties within the ranks of the Syrian Army, as the hit-and-run attacks last for only a short period of time before the terrorists disappear back into the vast desert region of central Syria.

To combat the Islamic State’s activity, the Russian Aerospace Forces have unleashed a large number of strikes over the Hama, Al-Raqqa and Homs governorates, hitting targets within these governorates to weaken the terrorist group’s sleeper cells.

A source from the Syrian Army pointed out that many of these Islamic State cells have thrived in the large number of caves in the Badiya Al-Sham region, which allows them  to evade capture and detection.

However, the source pointed out that Russian reconnaissance planes have been increasing their flights over this desert region to monitor the terrorist activities and movements.
